On the 25th November, the Sociedade Martins Sarmento (Martins Sarmento Society, in Guimarães) hosted the initiative “Robotics at the University of Minho”. The event’s organisation joined several invited speakers aiming at presenting project developed at the University of Minho, as for instance “RoadKills – detecting amphibian road-kills”, which Gil Lopes explained to the audience.
During the event, organized by the Automation and Robotics group in the framework of the European Robotics Week, several themes were presented and debated, such as simulation and robotics in creating working teams composed by humans and robots or educational engineering projects. After the presentations, the audience had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session during which progress details and achieved results were discussed. The event constituted an opportunity to understand how robotics is more and more present in everyday life.
The event took place at the Noble Hall of Sociedade Martins Sarmento, in the historic city centre, at 9.30 PM, and “the audience was very enthusiastic as we were able to address robotics in a simple way, showcasing a few videos, instead of focusing on the scientific details”, Fernando Ribeiro, the mentor of this initiative, states, confirming the belief that “this event should be repeated”.
