The invitation was sent by the EU Policy Lab, a part of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission – to invite 2 to 4 students from Textile Engineering education programmes to participate in a workshop on the future of this scientific area.
Sandra Ventura, student from the Doctoral Programme in Textile Engineering, and João Carlos Abreu, student from the Integrated Master Programme in Textile Engineering, travelled to Brussels to participate in the 2nd workshop “Towards the Vision for European Textiles and Clothing in 2025”.
The initiative counted on the presence of experts and industry representatives. Among other themes, the discussions focused on the low attractiveness of textile industry for young professionals, a very significant problem considering the overall lack of adequate skills for its future development.
The main goal was to provide students with a general view of the European textile industry and to develop professional networks with representatives from several working areas.
